More loss for Irish as bats go missing

The Irish cricket team not only lost a World Cup Group B match against India in Bangalore on Sunday, but six costly bats as well. The team has lodged a complaint with the Cubbon Park police, which manages the security of the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in the city. But the team is not sure about how the bats were lost. “They have lodged a complaint.

But they are not sure whether they lost them at the stadium or at the hotel. We are investigating,” a police officer said.

The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) ruled out the possibility of the Ireland team losing the bats from their dressing room. “The stadium, especially the players’ rooms was heavily fortified. It is very difficult to steal bats from their rooms.

But we are conducting an internal inquiry to clarify the matter,” a KSCA official said. Star Irish batsman Kevin O’Brien also lost his bat. But it is not confirmed whether the bat that he used to plunder England bowlers a few days ago is among those lost.

“They have not indicated about the loss of bats in detail. The Irish team has just registered a complaint seeking to recover their lost bats,” the police added.

Ireland have punched well above their weight in this World Cup. They chased a mammoth 327 against England at the Chinnaswamy Stadium and ran India and Bangladesh close before going down valiantly. This incident comes after the breach in security which saw the West Indies team bus being stoned after their crushing win over Bangladesh in Dhaka.
